About twenty years ago I received a red B chambers stove in good unrestored condition as a gift. The giver paid three hundred and fifty dollars for it at a local Austin store called Room Service.

To make a long story short, I moved into several houses where the stove would not fit, and the stove has been stored outside in a garage for at least fifteen years.

I am now about to start remodeling my home and I want to get the stove restored for the new kitchen. Does anyone have any idea of the cost, where to have it done (Austin Texas area?), etc?

Also, it looks like the O'Keefe Merritt and the Western stoves are the "hot" stoves these days. Would it be better to invest in one of those stoves instead?

Finally, I want a pink refrigerator like my grandmother had. In your opinion, should I get a modern refrigerator?

Deoends on what you want from a refrigerator...we dumped our very modern Jennair for a 1955 Hotpoint and couldn't be happier. It's big, roomy, has a perfect freezer, adjustable slideout shelves and uses so little energy that our electric bill is down by none dollars a month. We prefer the enamelled metal outer case, the enamelled metal slide out drawers and aluminmum trim to something that is all PVC and plastic. You do need to defrost the freezer once or twice a year and if you like ice cubes, you need to make those in the old fashioned ice cube tray. But, like they say, "if you can boil water you can make ice". If you are investing in a vintage stove, look no further than the red chambers in your garage !

remember, an o'keefe and merritt is a nice stove and will cook your food for you but, a CHAMBERS RANGE is a nicer range and will also cook for you using it's in a top broiler, it's Thermowell, the fantastic oven, daisy burners and hyper insulated construction allowing you to cook "without the gas". Clearly, no other stove reaches the heights CHAMBERS stoves do. I may have misplaced it but, can you tell me the web address for the O'keefe and Merritt support group ? The one that offers a discussion board, parts suppliers, hints and tips, original literature and manuals and even recipes....why trade down when with a CHAMBERS RANGE you are already at the top !

Do you have any pictures? What does it need to be restored? Is it set for the type of gas you will be using (natural or propane)? I live in the Lockhart area and work in Austin, so I may be able to help. Do you have the books, so you can see what type of work you would need to do if you want to do it yourself? You definitely need a manual. It may just need a good cleaning. Let me know if I can help.

I may be old fashioned, but I am having a hard time seeing a red stove and a pink fridge in the same kitchen...

Red chambers are rare and sought after, you are very lucky.

You are so lucky to have a Chambers, but a red one is a super special color!!
Are you wanting to have it professionally restored or do it yourself??

    Welcome aboard!!
